Birth

Birth at 4, 5 living neighbors.

Survival

Survival at 2, 4, 6, 7 living neighbors.

Death succession

A dying cell tries one step toward its counterpart. Occupied cells, ordinary births and tied claims block it. Successful transfers keep their identity and exchange with the dormant destination identity. Bearings update after all transfers.

History rewiring

Enable history rewiring

Every identity carries its last eight alive/dead states. Match this four-bit sequence anywhere in that history, oldest to newest. All sixteen codes are valid.

Code 1011. A match redirects this identity to the nearest living cell to its former counterpart, excluding itself and that counterpart. Tied distances use the seeded choice below. No candidate: keep the link. A persistent match can redirect again each Step.

Rewiring seed

Seed edits restart each identity’s tie-choice stream, preserving life, links and history. The switch stops future rewiring; Reset reconstructs the original pairs. Older version-one compositions load with rewiring off.

Counterpart

Death sends a successor toward a counterpart. Carried eight-bit histories can redirect each identity toward the nearest living neighbor of its former target, creating independent links and shared pursuits.

Life between counterparts

01Every living or dead identity has one outgoing counterpart. Initial pairs are reciprocal; history rewiring permits shared targets. The compass points toward the current target’s screen position.
02Evaluate Life from the frozen eight-neighbor field. A dying cell proposes a successor one step along its compass.
03Original occupants block, even if dying. Ordinary Life births reserve space first. Shared claims all fail.
04Success exchanges the mover with the dormant destination identity; failure leaves its own identity dormant at home. Life can wake it later.
05After all transfers, append each identity’s final alive/dead state. Matching histories change outgoing links simultaneously, then all bearings recalculate. New successors first travel next Step.

Pause and enable Inspect cell in View & world to follow a pair and explain the next Step.
