Primary controls

Life force p = living ÷ total cells. Each Step measures it once, then every cell uses the same thresholds.

Enable birthsEnable deathsModerate state changes

Primary controls are manual: randomization always preserves these three switches.

Disabled pathways retain their settings. No births occur without a living neighbor.

Minimum stay

When a cell changes, that turn’s actual births + deaths set its minimum stay. The setting turn is cycle one. Existing stays keep their assigned duration.

Unrestricted change rate5%

Rate for maximum stay100%

Maximum stay10 cycles

At or below 5%: one cycle. Above it: round up (change% × 10 ÷ 100), capped at 10. One cycle permits changing next turn. Rate edits keep the quiet rate below the maximum-stay rate.

At 5 / 20 / 30 / 50 / 100% change: 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 cycles. Moderation off: all holds are bypassed; settings retained.

Older saved compositions load with moderation off to reproduce their original behavior.

Survival ceiling rounding

7 + (8 − 7) × p. Threshold rises as life increases. Equality survives.

At 0 / 25 / 50 / 75 / 100% life: 7 / 7 / 7 / 7 / 8 neighbors.

Birth minimum curve

Birth minimum rounding

2 + (5 − 2) × p. Threshold rises as life increases. Rounded values below one become one.

At 0 / 25 / 50 / 75 / 100% life: 2 / 3 / 4 / 4 / 5 neighbors.

Survival minimum5

Now: survive with 5–7 neighbors; birth at 2–8. Zero minimum permits isolated survival.

Life Force

The whole field's living fraction changes the rules of survival and birth. Recorded minimum stays moderate rapid births and deaths.

01Measure life force: living cells divided by all logical cells.
02Survival ceiling: 7 + (8 − 7) × p, rounded floor. Minimum 5.
03Birth minimum: 2 + (5 − 2) × p, rounded nearest, at least one.
04Count eight immediate neighbors from the frozen field. Moderation off: recorded stays are bypassed. All results commit together.
05Count births + deaths. Changed cells record a new stay of up to 10 cycles; existing stays never refresh. The setting turn counts as one.

Births on; deaths on. Empty fields cannot revive themselves. Try Half field to start at exactly 50% life.
