Forward Life

Birth rule

Survival rule

Birth: 3, 6, 7. Survival: 0, 1, 3. These rules apply only while moving forward or on a release Step.

Time direction

R168 / F248

Reverse trigger

Forward release

Forward cells rewind at 1, 6, 8 neighbors. Rewinding cells resume ordinary Life at 2, 4, 8. Overlap is allowed because each row acts in a different direction.

Rewind limit

Maximum duration

History-controlled Steps allowed28

A cell resumes forward Life before consuming Step 29. A forward-count match or the oldest retained state may release it sooner.

Private history

Fixed invariant

Each position retains its latest 32 forward states. Rewind removes future entries one at a time; release branches forward from the state reached. Counts come from one frozen visible board and every result commits synchronously.

015GOL

Rewind Life

Each position keeps a private occupancy history: local crowding can send it backward through its own past until another neighbor count, the oldest retained state, or a duration cap releases it.

Current composition

01Every position retains a private stack of its latest 32 forward dead/alive states.
02A forward cell at 1, 6, 8 neighbors rewinds immediately when an earlier state exists; B367/S013 does not act on that Step.
03A rewinding cell emits one earlier personal state per Step while its neighbors continue evolving.
04It resumes ordinary Life at 2, 4, 8 neighbors, after 28 rewind Steps, or upon reaching its oldest retained state.
05Playback removes the future it traverses. Frozen neighbor counts and every occupancy/history result commit synchronously without evolution randomness.

Color view shows forward life lime, rewinding life violet, rewinding death indigo, condition release cream, duration release blue, oldest-history release mint, and a reverse transition to death coral. Inspect cell outlines its eight frozen neighbors. Arrow keys move the cursor; Enter paints when inspection is off; P plays or pauses; S advances one generation.
